The other night, the boys in the band and I were in the Taproom, a favorite haunt of ours in Falling Rock, North Carolina. It’s one of the few places where we can be pretty sure of escaping the adulation of our fans. The folks there know us and treat us as if we were just ordinary people and not megastars.

The conversation turned to politics, as it so often does these days. Things were getting a bit heated, so I suggested I order some food. As usual, our ace fiddler, Beau Strokes was anxious to get his tonsils around some of the Taproom’s delicious wings and ordered a dozen for him and his old friend Lamar, who had joined us for the evening. Imagine his surprise and delight when the wings arrived and, when they set about dividing them out, he discovered that there were not twelve wings on his plate, but an astonishing thirteen. He stared at that bonus wing and uttered the words that inspired this song, “You know, this never happened under Biden.” We all thought for a moment and had to admit that he was right. Only under the Trump administration had any of us received an extra wing.
